I sometimes think it’s the bits we don’t see which are the most interesting and give real personality to the project or creation.
So I thought I would give you a little insight into the preparation for a wedding to give you an idea of the work that goes on behind the scenes.
We tend to start working with brides around a year before they are getting married and we always like to meet our brides face to face. We have a very loose and natural style at Wild Willow so even from the beginning the bride has a good idea of how the flowers will look.
So the first stage is to talk about which flowers are in season. The list of flowers is always changing and this is what makes my job so interesting and at times challenging! Each season a new selection of flowers and foliages become available from the British and Dutch Growers. We create a mood board with a selection of flowers and colour choices. We then create a detailed proposal with lots of images, we play around with colours and flowers and over time the picture becomes clearer and the wedding takes shape.
Once we have decided on the flowers we can start thinking about any props the bride might like to add. Have you thought about your entrance? Can we create focal points at your venue; a beautiful fireplace or marquee poles? Have you thought about styling on your tables; a sprig of rosemary on your napkins or tea lights for the evening. We have a selection of props including a huge collection of timeworn candlesticks which look wonderful running down to he centre of an old trestle table.
We love creating weddings or flowers for a special occasion so if you are looking for ideas or props we would love to hear from you.
